Charlie Woods Struggles, Updated Standings for 1st Round of 2026 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship

Charlie Woods persevered after shooting six-over on his first five holes to finish one-under on his last 13 en route to carding a five-over 76 in the first round of the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship on Monday at Saucon Valley C.C. (Old Course) in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

Woods began the day with a bogey on the par-five first before he made triple bogey on the par-four second. Bogeys followed on the fourth and fifth holes, but he stopped the bleeding with a birdie on the par-five sixth. From there, Woods made 10 pars, one bogey (par-four 12th) and one birdie (par-four 18th).

It's a tough start for Woods, but his tournament certainly isn't over yet.

The U.S. Junior Amateur Championship consists of two rounds of stroke play to start. The field of 264 golfers is scheduled to play one round on Saugon Valley C.C.'s Old Course and one round on the Grace Course.

From there, the top 64 over two rounds qualify for the match play tournament. If golfers are tied on the cut line, then they will need to qualify for the bracket via a sudden-death playoff.

As of 2 p.m. ET on Monday, that cut line was at one-over. Woods' five-over score places him outside the top 150. Again, though, a great day on Tuesday could certainly change matters.

Woods, the son of golf legend Tiger Woods, has verbally committed to playing college golf at Florida State starting in the fall of 2027.
