Ryan Fox Wins 2026 British Open, Longshot Beats Cameron Young to Earn 1st Career Major Title

After a third-round surge in The Open Championship, Ryan Fox used another late charge to secure the first major title of his career.

Fox birdied the 18th hole in Sunday's final round to finish the day at two-under 68 and win the British Open by one stroke with an overall score of -10. Cameron Young placed second at -9 after shooting six-under 64 on Sunday, ending the round with a bogey on 18.

Before Sunday's win, Fox had never finished higher than 16th in any of the four major tournaments. He had two PGA Tour wins under his belt after his 2025 victories at the Myrtle Beach Classic and the RBC Canadian Open. FanDuel Sportsbook listed him with 125-1 odds to win The Open Championship entering this year's tournament.

However, Fox etched his name in history with a record-tying eight-under 62 in Saturday's third round. He was the third golfer to match the major championship scoring record this weekend after Lucas Herbert and Sam Burns shot 62 in Friday's second round, but his best round came at the perfect time.

Fox didn't have as much success in Sunday's final round, as his third bogey of the day at 15 kept him at even par. Meanwhile, Young made a push to the top of the leaderboard with seven birdies over the first 17 holes.

However, Fox quickly bounced back with a birdie on 16 before the 18th hole decided it all, as Young's first bogey of the day opened the door for Fox to put in another clutch birdie and earn his first major title in memorable fashion.
