Giants' Cam Skattebo Addresses Injury Concerns from Falling After Backflip in Viral Video

New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo attempted to allay the concerns of fans who weren't exactly thrilled to see him backflipping on his surgically repaired ankle.

"I will not hurt myself before the season," he told the crowd at Fanatics Fest.

Skattebo went viral for the wrong reasons Saturday when he attempted a backflip while mimicking a WWE-style entrance:

The second-year ball-carrier explained the stage had too much cushion, which caused him to fall backward as he landed.

Skattebo said he takes some exception to the criticism and mockery he receives, but he'll continue to embrace his full personality:

Skattebo had 617 yards from scrimmage and seven touchdowns before being lost for the season midway through New York's eighth game. He has yet to complete his recovery, with coach John Harbaugh planning to have him available early into training camp.

Skattebo felt good enough to start backflipping as recently as late May, when he took part in a charity softball game organized by teammate Brian Burns.

New York would probably nonetheless prefer to have the 2025 fourth-round pick keep both feet on the ground as much as possible. No matter how many successful backflips he has executed in the past, it only takes one for something to go badly wrong.

Teams will often insert language into a player's contract that prohibits them from engaging in any activities that raises the risk of them being injured.

If the Giants eventually re-sign Skattebo at some point, his backflipping days could be a thing of the past.
