Mahomes was nonetheless back for Kansas City's next offensive drive.

In his nine seasons as the Chiefs' starter, the 31-year-old has won three Super Bowls, five AFC titles and two NFL MVP awards while making the Pro Bowl on six occasions. His 283.7 passing yards per game also rank first all time. Kansas City has also gone 117-37 overall (17-4 in the playoffs) with him starting under center.

Last year was a tough season for Mahomes. His 2025 campaign ended in Week 15 after suffering a torn ACL and LCL in his left knee against the Los Angeles Chargers on Dec. 14. Mahomes immediately underwent surgery and began rehab.

However, rehab went very well, and he met his stated goal of returning in time for the Chiefs' season opener, a 31-10 win, over the Denver Broncos on Sept. 14.

This year has been great for Mahomes, who has thrown for 1,795 yards, 12 touchdowns and four interceptions.

The Chiefs remade their quarterback room over the offseason outside Mahomes. Justin Fields, who has started games for the Chicago Bears, Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Jets, is now the team's top backup.

Garrett Nussmeier, who starred at LSU before going in the seventh round of this year's draft, is also aboard as the third-stringer.
