New Aaron Donald Rumors on Potential Rams Return, Contract Talks amid Workout Buzz
After being spotted working out at the Los Angeles Rams' facility, future Hall of Famer Aaron Donald appears to be getting closer to a return to the NFL.
During an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday, ESPN's Peter Schrager explained that Donald is looking to ensure he can return in his usual form before entering negotiations for a new contract with the Rams.
"Aaron Donald is not gonna come back as some 30 cent on the dollar version of Aaron Donald, he wants to be ready," Schrager said. "That's why that workout was going on. He wants to be fully where he was when he retired two years ago. He wants to be the best version of himself."
Donald would be returning to a Rams team that is favored to win the Super Bowl this season after acquiring two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett and other key defensive pieces.
However, Schrager made it clear that the 35-year-old is motivated to play at the level that earned him three DPOY awards and eight Pro Bowl selections, so his physical assessments will continue before contract discussions.
"They haven't even discussed money yet. ... The Rams would welcome him with open arms, obviously, if the numbers worked out," Schrager said. "This is not gonna be one of those deals where it's like Week 2, Week 3, Week 4. No, he wants to go the full season if he comes back, and he wants to be at his best version of himself, so that's why these workouts are happening. Training camp starts in a week, I would imagine we would have more information by then."
