CC Sabathia's Son Carsten Picked by Brewers in 2026 MLB Draft, Scouting Report on First Baseman

The Milwaukee Brewers selected Houston first baseman Carsten Sabathia III with the No. 611th pick (20th round) during Sunday's MLB draft.

He is the son of Hall of Fame pitcher CC Sabathia.

While the elder Sabathia was legendary for his dominance on the mound, his son is more of a power bat.

Sabathia has a lot to prove—in two seasons at Houston, he had a .800 OPS, eight homers and 36 RBI across 64 games. Solid numbers, and the power is intriguing, though there's a reason he fell to the 20th round.

He also has quite the baseball pedigree.

"Our conversations have always been different because of his baseball IQ and because of how much of a fan he is," the elder Sabathia told MLB.com's Anthony Castrovince in June 2025 when his son went undrafted. "Like, you could have a conversation with him about a 2-1 pitch when he was 10 years old. And when he was 14, he would try to hit behind runners and do all these different things instead of just trying to hit a homer, because he always had a mind to try to do the right thing on the diamond."

Questions remain about whether any of that will translate at the minor league or eventually the MLB level. But if nothing else, he won't be the only legacy prospect in the team's organization, as Jadyn Fielder—the son of Prince Fielder—was signed by the Brewers a year ago as an undrafted free agent.
