Adam WellsJul 12, 2026

Jannik Sinner remains the king of Wimbledon after defeating Alexander Zverev to win the gentlemen's final for the second consecutive year.

Sinner dropped the first set before rebounding to take the next three sets 6-7, 7-6, 6-3, 6-4 to beat Zverev.

Sinner becomes the 10th men's player in the Open Era to win consecutive Wimbledon titles. He joins a group that includes Rod Laver, John Newcombe, Bjรถrn Borg, John McEnroe, Boris Becker, Pete Sampras, Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz.

The first two sets were very tight back-and-forth battles with neither player winning consecutive games until Zverev tied the first set 6-6 to force a tiebreak, then won the tiebreak 9-7.

The second set followed virtually the same script with both players trading games, except this time it was Sinner winning to force the tiebreak and going onto to win the tiebreak to even things up.

It looked like the third set was going to be more of the same, but Sinner finally broke through by holding serve in the seventh game to up 4-3. He got a break point in the next game, though a lot of that was due to self-inflicted problems for Zverev.

The German star committed five unforced errors and a double-fault in the game. Sinner won all four points in the ninth game, with Zverev committing two more unforced errors.

Sinner's break in the eighth game of the third set was the first for either player in the match.

Zverev tried to rally early in the fourth set and took a 3-2 lead, but the momentum went right back to Sinner from that point. He won the next three games to go up 5-3, losing just one point in games six and eight combined.

After Zverev held in the ninth game, Sinner went back on serve for the championship. He closed out the match with a forehand winner.

Sinner won the tournament having played just three sets over the minimum. He didn't drop a set in five consecutive matches prior to the final after Miomir Kecmanovic surprisingly pushed him to five sets in the first round.

Dating back to 2025, Sinner has only lost four sets in his last 12 matches at the All England Club.

The Italian star now has five career Grand Slam titles, with multiple victories at Wimbledon and the Australian Open. His five wins have all come since 2024.

Carlos Alcaraz (five titles) and Zverev (2026 French Open) are the only other players that have won at least one Grand Slam title over the past two years.

Sinner has also extended his winning streak over Zverev to 10 consecutive matches. This was their second head-to-head meeting in a Grand Slam final during the stretch, with the first being the 2025 Australian Open.

The final major of the year is the U.S. Open starting on Aug. 23. If Sinner is able to win, it will mark his second straight year with two Grand Slam titles. He won the Australian Open and Wimbledon in 2025.
