White Sox's Munetaka Murakami Announced for 2026 MLB HR Derby, Full Field of Participants Revealed
The full slate of competitors for the 2026 Home Run Derby has been set.
Chicago White Sox slugger Munetaka Murakami was announced Friday as the final entrant in the Derby.
Here's a look at the full list of 2026 MLB Home Run Derby competitors.
- Munetaka Murakami, Chicago White Sox
- Kyle Schwarber, Philadelphia Phillies
- Bryce Harper, Philadelphia Phillies
- Jordan Walker, St. Louis Cardinals
- Willson Contreras, Boston Red Sox
- Jac Caglianone, Kansas City Royals
- Ben Rice, New York Yankees
- Junior Caminero, Tampa Bay Rays
The Derby is set to take place Monday at 8 p.m. ET in Philadelphia's Citizens Bank Park.
The event will be followed Tuesday by the 2026 MLB All-Star Game on Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET.
Murakami is also replacing Minnesota Twins center fielder Byron Buxton on the All-Star team.
Buxton, who was set to start for the AL, was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday after Twins manager Derek Shelton said he "reaggravated" an existing hip injury.
Murakami just came back from his own injury, a strained right hamstring that had sidelined him since May 29.
The first baseman was reinstated from the 10-day IL ahead of the White Sox's Friday matchup against the Athletic.
White Sox manager Will Venable told reporters Murakami is expected to remain in the lineup for all three games of this weekend's series against the Athletics heading into the All-Star break, per MLB.com's Scott Merkin.
Murakami had recorded 20 home runs in 57 games prior to his injury. He will now join the Los Angeles Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani as the only Japanese natives to ever participate in the Derby.
He will look to make more history with a win. Frank Thomas is currently the only White Sox player to have won the Derby after taking home the title in 1995.
Murakami was a two-time MVP and champion in the NPB before making the leap from Japan to MLB ahead of the 2026 season. The 26-year-old has so far slashed .240/.378/.560 in his first season with the White Sox.
