Keeper League Advice

49ers Football

Don't overlook the oldies.

Age matters a ton if this fantasy format. It just isn't the only factor, even though it's often treated as such.

While you can, should and must chase youth where it's appropriate, you should also be willing to snatch up values where they surface. Some managers—maybe a lot of them—in your league may just keep older veterans off of their draft board. If it's obvious that an impact player is falling a lot farther then they should, don't overthink it. Take the bargain, and thank your youth-obsessed leaguemates for the discount later.

Know your league specifics.

By mere virtue of playing in this format, you're already part of a unqiue fantasy league. But just exactly how unique is your league? You need to know all of its ins and outs in order to assemble the best possible team for it.

Does your roster remain totally intact, or do you only keep a select number of players? And are those players tied to any salary-cap or draft costs? Throw in the typical scoring specifics—four or six points for a passing touchdown? one point, a half-point or no points per reception?—and there might be a lot to unpack, but you'll lose this season before it starts if you don't do the unpacking.
