Over Rated Alabama, Just Blows!!!
While out and about today, the main point of topic was college football. I was listening to a man who is respected and known for his far sighted business prowess and quick mind. He had been to the plains this weekend to watch his favorite team dispatch their opponent in overwhelming fashion. He asked me if I knew what his team was ranked this week. I answered "I believe they are number 32, I know they did not break the Top 25". To that he answered, "That Over Rated Alabama Just Blows". I asked him why he thought so and he replied," Those blind press people would rate them in the Top 25 if they lost every game". It was evident from the red tint of his skin and his tone of voice he was really mad that Alabama was having some limited success in the Polls.
This made me remember some of the other conversations and emails I received over the weekend. One in particular said of USC Vs. Ohio State ,"I don't care which team wins as long as both of these S.!!!! loose and loose big". I thought to my self at the time why bother watching the game if you feel that way.
I also got some prize comments on the Notre Dame Vs. Michigan game, but, I can not even start to write those here. I think it is possible these two teams just might be the most hated teams in college football. I got by far more negative expletives on this game than any of the others.
I remembered a description of the Big 12 conference by a Nebraska fan a few years back. He said," The Big 12 is like a big bull at the north you get pushed around by Nebraska. If you travel south until it starts to smell you have reached Oklahoma. If you keep traveling south until your windshield is covered in the foul smelling stuff you have reached Texas and you know first hand why they call them the Long Horns.".
At first I was taken with the ignorance of such views. I thought to myself, "These people are really backward to think like this". I then began to realize the truth. People hate these teams for a reason.
Thanks to the Michigans, Notre Dames, Alabamas, Ohio States, Southern Californias we have more than just a simple sport in college football. We like to kick these schools while they are up or down, day or night, every season. We like to see bad things befall them in almost any way imaginable. Michigan was still hated as much last year when they had a dismal season. Why is this?
The truth behind this is, these are some of the winning est schools in college football history. They each have a legacy that most schools can not ever hope to achieve. Their teams have a certain confidence and swagger. It is not the stadium that makes the shoe. It is Ohio State's tradition. These are the programs that have pushed college football beyond a mere sport. They have invested over a century to excellence in college football. Why do we hate them?
The reason we hate them is, "We really want to be them and know we can not do so in just one season." it takes a lifetime plus of commitment to excellence to get where they have already been. We should thank these storied football programs for all the years of commitment that made our sport what it is today. Besides, "Every Plot Needs a Bad Guy".
