Travis Hunter Reportedly Running Over 20 MPH Amid Knee Injury Rehab Ahead of 2nd Season with Jaguars
Travis Hunter reportedly has his speed back as he recovers from knee surgery that cut short his rookie season with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
"The Travis Hunter show is just getting started," NFL Network's Cameron Wolfe reported Wednesday. "… He's ready to be unleashed. … He's running over 20 miles per hour, which is faster than he ran before that knee injury. He's cutting, he's in great shape. He should be full-go for training camp. And he is still going to play on both sides of the ball."

Dark-Horse Candidates to Win Each NFL Award in 2026
Jacksonville traded up to select Hunter with the No. 2 overall pick of the 2025 NFL draft in part because of his ability to thrive as both a cornerback and a wide receiver. He demonstrated that at Colorado when he won the Heisman Trophy, and being able to do so in the NFL would make him all the more valuable.
Yet it seems like he will be playing far more defense than offense.
"They think he can be elite on that side of the ball," Wolfe said. "... He will still play a lot of offense … but it may fluctuate."
With Brian Thomas Jr., Jakobi Meyers and Parker Washington, there is not a pressing need at wide receiver for the Jaguars. They have more than enough weapons even if Hunter plays limited snaps on that side of the ball, which he may need to in order to stay fully healthy in 2026.
Still, the speed Wolfe highlighted makes him dangerous when he does take the field on offense.
Hunter will likely see plenty of single coverage as well when he is on the field with Thomas and Meyers, as secondaries will need to shade extra coverage toward the primary pass-catchers. And Hunter has the speed to beat that single coverage over the top, which could make him valuable even in limited snaps.
But he will be most important on the defensive side of the ball and will need his speed to counter some of the best receivers in the league when facing them in his second season.
