New Mets Rumors Update Freddy Peralta's Trade Value Ahead of 2026 MLB Deadline
One of the biggest trade candidates ahead of the August deadline is New York Mets pitcher Freddy Peralta.
According to The Athletic's Will Sammon, several scouts and executives have said that the Mets "should end up doing fine on a return for Peralta." Sammon added, however, that the return likely won't be as much as what New York paid for him this offseason.
The Mets landed Peralta in January in return for a pair of top-100 prospects, Brandon Sproat and Jett Williams.
Peralta hasn't been quite as good on the mound as in typical years, posting a 4.68 ERA and a 1.42 WHIP, putting him on track for his worst statistical season since 2019.
Nonetheless, Peralta is a capable starting arm that contenders will covet at the deadline as they look to bolster their postseason rosters. He's also on an expiring contract, which makes him even more appealing to opposing squads.
The Mets are bound to be sellers at the deadline, considering their 38-53 record and position at the bottom of the NL East. Catcher Francisco Alvarez and pitcher Luke Weaver have also been mentioned as possible trade candidates on the Mets.
