Clark was drafted first overall by the Tigers in 2018 and quickly made his way through the minor league system, making his MLB debut during the 2020 campaign.

The trade doesn't come as too much of a surprise given the position the Tigers are in this year. At 54-58 on the season, Detroit was bound to sell at the deadline, and Mize was one of its most highly coveted players.

The 29-year-old has put together the best season of his career so far, posting a 2.70 ERA and a 0.99 WHIP. That kind of arm is destined to get attention from contenders, and the Tigers felt now was the time to move on from him as they look towards the future.

Mize is also on an expiring deal and will be a free agent this offseason, making him even more attractive to contenders ahead of the deadline.

He'll look to continue his outstanding play with his new squad, and if he closes out the year strong, he could be in for a big pay this offseason as he enters free agency for the first time.
