Wimbledon DQ's 15-Year-Old Player After She Threw Racket and It Bounced Into Stands
A 15-year-old German player competing in Wimbledon's junior tournament was taught a lesson in sportsmanship.
Per the Associated Press, the All England Club confirmed that Ida Wobker has been disqualified from the "tournament after she angrily threw her racket on the grass and it bounced into the stands" toward the end of the second set of her first-round match against Romanian opponent Maria Valentina Pop on Saturday.
Wobker suffered a 6-0 loss in the first set, but she put up more of a fight in the second. With the score tied 5-5, she missed a backhand long, leading to the unflattering moment. She flung her racket toward the court, and the AP reported that it "bounced up and into the few rows of stands lining Court 11." It wasn't clear whether it hit any of the spectators.
