Yankees' Jazz Chisholm Jr. Ejected After Arguing Check-Swing Call vs. Sonny Gray, Red Sox

New York Yankees infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. exited earlier than he would have liked against the Boston Red Sox on Sunday.

Chisholm was ejected after arguing a checked-swing call that resulted in a strikeout to end the sixth inning.

Chisholm had a frustrating day at the plate against Red Sox ace Sonny Gray. Before the ejection, he was 0-for-3 with a pair of strikeouts, continuing what has been a rough month for him.

But Chisholm wasn't the only one struggling against Gray. He threw seven hitless innings before finally giving up his first of the day in the eighth. He also notched nine strikeouts and recorded his 2,000th career strikeout on Sunday.

The Yankees have had a much better season than Boston, but a recent rough stretch carried into the rivalry matchup against the Red Sox, and they lost the first three games of the series heading into Sunday.

Chisholm's play has certainly been a factor in New York's cold stretch. The two-time All-Star has slashed .187/.295/.453 this month, hitting six home runs and 13 RBI.

His play has fluctuated throughout the season, as he started off cold but turned things around before facing another recent rough stretch. On the season, he has 12 homers and 33 RBI with a .225 batting average.

After his early exit on Sunday, Chisholm will look to turn things around against the Detroit Tigers on Monday.

The Yankees are currently sitting in second place in the AL East at 48-34, though they're just half a game back from the first-placed Tampa Bay Rays.
