'Straight BS,' 49ers' Brandon Aiyuk Calls Out NFLPA for 'Lying' in IG Photo Amid Commanders Buzz

Timothy RappJun 28, 2026

Brandon Aiyuk isn't pleased with the NFL Players Association.

The disgruntled San Francisco 49ers wideout suggested in a social media post on Sunday that the NFLPA, or certain members in the NFLPA, were working against his best interests during his ongoing showdown with the Niners:

That followed Aiyuk posting a video on YouTube Saturday that essentially blamed his former agent, Ryan Williams, for his current situation with the Niners. Williams is friends and business partners with San Francisco general manager John Lynch.

"We is not cool," Aiyuk said in the video regarding his relationship with the Niners. "We won't be cool, and I will never be stepping in that building."

He said the one exception will be on Oct. 19, when the Washington Commanders face the 49ers. Aiyuk seems intent on getting himself to Washington this offseason.

But that would first require San Francisco to release him or trade him.

Last July, the Niners voided the 2026 guaranteed money in Aiyuk's four-year, $120 million contract, displeased with how he approached his rehabilitation from a torn ACL, MCL and meniscus suffered during the 2024 campaign.

Aiyuk stopped reporting to the team's facilities entirely and San Francisco placed him on the reserve/left team list in December.

The Niners have very little incentive to release Aiyuk, however, since he doesn't count against their books while he's on the reserve/left team list. As David Lombardi of the San Francisco Standard wrote earlier in June, "the 49ers' salary-cap situation actually benefits from the status quo because a large amount of the $48.4 million the team has paid Aiyuk since 2024 will remain prorated into the future against the cap for as long as he's on the roster."

So unless a team is willing to trade for Aiyuk—and given this ongoing drama, that seems unlikely—the Niners don't have to rush to make a decision on Aiyuk's future. And that may be why the veteran wideout seems to hope the NFLPA steps in to assist his cause.
