Takeaways From Night 1 of the NHL Draft

Last-Minute Draft Storylines to Watch 👀
The 25-year-old registered 37 goals and 27 assists in the 2025-26 season, finishing minus-three on the year.
He was also superb in this year's postseason, posting 12 goals and four assists across 22 games while finishing plus-two. His 58 shots and five power-play goals led the NHL during the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Dorofeyev also registered 35 goals in the 2024-25 season and has emerged as a real sniper during his young career.
Vegas parting ways with Dorofeyev likely down to a gulf in long-term contract negotiations, given the team's lack of cap space and the player's pending restricted free agency. It wouldn't be shocking if the Golden Knights used the assets acquired in this deal to trade for a proven star, given their recent berth in the Stanley Cup Finals.
Detroit Red Wings star Dylan Larkin, for instance, reportedly has the Golden Knights on a list of three teams he would be willing to be traded to this summer as part of his full no-trade clause. The Minnesota Wild—currently the frontrunners to acquire him—and Florida Panthers are also reportedly on that list.
