MLBPA Exec Rips 'Extremely Bad' MLB CBA Proposals, Says Players Giving In Is 'Not Going to Happen'

Zach BacharJun 25, 2026

MLB Players Association interim executive director Bruce Meyer wasn't pleased with MLB's latest collective bargaining agreement proposals.

"I will tell you with all honesty, I have never seen this degree of unity at this point among agents and players," Meyer said, via Evan Drellich of The Athletic. "I think, honestly, the league has done us a favor. Because their proposals are, in fact, so obviously and extremely bad for players at all levels, that it's actually been a benefit for our unity.

"Anybody who's banking on Major League Baseball players cracking: it's never happened. It's not going to happen. That's why we're the only ones who don't have a salary cap."

On Thursday, MLB revealed that it was proposing a salary cap and floor as well as a maximum contract length of five years for free agents switching teams. Clubs retaining their own players would be able to offer a maximum contract length of six years.

The MLBPA has been consistently against the inclusion of a salary cap and floor in the next CBA.

MLB's proposal on Thursday also contained an increase in the minimum salary from $780,000 to $1 million for players with at least two years of service time. The league accepted the MLBPA's request for players to become eligible for free agency after reaching five years of service time by age 30 as well.

Still, it seems as though both sides have more work to do as they look to reach an agreement before the current CBA expires on Dec. 1.
