According to the Associated Press, at least 188 people have died after Venezuela was hit with earthquakes of 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude. Bericoto confirmed his brother's girlfriend is among those killed.

The 24-year-old gave San Francisco a 6-2 lead with a two-run homer in the sixth inning Thursday.

On Wednesday night, he played a pivotal role in San Francisco's 2-1 victory.

Rafael Devers hit a game-tying home run to lead off the bottom of the ninth. Two outs later, Bericoto stepped up to the plate. He got a slider over the middle of the plate and deposited it into the bleachers in left center.

Bericoto told reporters he was aware of the earthquakes in Venezuela and got into contact with his family back home prior to the win. Later on, he discovered the severity of the disaster.

"It's been pretty difficult," he said, per MLB.com's Maria Guardado. "There were a lot of bad things after the game. My brother's girlfriend lost her life in the earthquakes. It was a really tough night. Like all Venezuelans, I don't think anyone was able to sleep. It's been really hard to process everything that happened."

Bericoto entered Thursday with a .227 batting average and .500 slugging percentage through 14 games. He made his MLB debut on May 22 and has helped to fill in with Harrison Bader and Heliot Ramos on the injured list.
