Brenton Strange Lands Jaguars Contract Extension, Here's Where It Ranks Among NFL TEs
The Jacksonville Jaguars and tight end Brenton Strange have agreed to a three-year contract extension worth up to $48 million, per Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.
Per Spotrac, the total value of the deal places him eighth among tight ends. The maximum average annual value ($16 million) would slot Strange fifth as well.
Strange received the opportunity to be the Jaguars' No. 1 tight end last year after Evan Engram left in free agency for the Denver Broncos. He played 12 games, catching 46 passes for 540 yards and three touchdowns. Despite missing five contests with a hip injury, Strange finished third on the team in those categories.
Needless to say, he's a valued member of the Jaguars, who went 13-4 and won the AFC South in their first season under the watch of general manager James Gladstone and head coach Liam Coen.
Strange entered this offseason on the final year of his rookie contract, but he was eligible for an extension. Gladstone was asked about Strange and Parker Washington, who is also entering the final year of his rookie deal, in his postseason press conference and indicated they were in the team's plans:
It's clear, based on the reported contract, that the Jags are aligned with the tight end, who serves as a core piece for Jacksonville as it looks to take another big step after a great start to the Gladstone-Coen chapter.
