Kelsey Plum Injury Update, Timeline to Return After Sparks Confirm Lower Leg Diagnosis

The Los Angeles Sparks announced on Wednesday that guard Kelsey Plum suffered a lower left leg injury and will be re-evaluated in four weeks.

Plum, a four-time All-Star and two-time WNBA champion, has averaged 23.9 points on 52.7 percent shooting (38.3 percent from three) and 6.4 assists in 12 stars this season.

Plum previously missed three games after suffering a sprained right ankle during a May 26 practice.

This is a brutal blow for the 8-8 Sparks, who have lost three of four games without Plum in the lineup.

Plum will now miss at least 10 games, starting with a road matchup at the Toronto Tempo on Thursday and ending with a home game versus the Phoenix Mercury on Wednesday, July 22.

The WNBA then has its All-Star break, and the Sparks' first game after that will be Tuesday, July 28 at home vs. the New York Liberty. L.A. then has another four days off before embarking on a three-game road trip from Aug. 2-6.

It's not clear exactly what Plum is dealing with. There also doesn't seem to be any one incident that led to the left leg ailment, which also led to her missing her team's June 17 matchup with the Minnesota Lynx. Plum did speak with basketball journalist Justin Russo on the matter last week, however.

L.A. must now traverse a month without Plum, who is second in the league in scoring and sixth in assists. Hopefully she'll be able to return in late July for the last two months of the regular season as the Sparks look to make the playoffs for the first time since 2020.
