Jordan Kyrou Traded to Capitals as Alex Ovechkin Mulls NHL Retirement, Blues' Full Return Revealed
The St. Louis Blues traded forward Jordan Kyrou to the Washington Capitals on Tuesday.
St. Louis received Connor McMichael, Milton Gastrin and the No. 16 overall pick in the 2026 NHL draft in exchange for Kyrou.
The Blues will now have four first-round picks in the upcoming draft.
Kyrou is joining a Capitals squad that is currently waiting to see if captain Alex Ovechkin decides to retire or return for another season.
Chris Patrick, Washington's general manager, previously discussed the team's approach to the offseason given Ovechkin's uncertain future.
"It's no different than really any offseason where you have some players that are expiring and you go down different paths depending on what happens with them," Patrick said, per Tom Gulitti of NHL.com. "So, same thing with him, even though he's the greatest goal-scorer of all-time."
The Capitals still have multiple avenues to improve their roster after Tuesday's trade, owning just over $23.23 million in salary cap space for next season and holding the No. 18 overall pick in the 2026 draft (h/t The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta).
As for Kyrou, he's joining Washington after spending the first eight years of his NHL career in St. Louis.
In 72 appearances during the 2025-26 season, he amassed 18 goals and 28 assists while showcasing his speed on offense.
It's also worth noting that Kyrou racked up at least 67 points in each season from 2021-25.
He has also recorded 11 goals and two assists in 28 playoff games throughout his career.
Kyrou will look to provide a boost to a Washington team looking to return to the postseason after wrapping up a 43-30-9 finish.
