Toronto Blue Jays second baseman Ernie Clement overtook Houston Astros slugger Yordan Alvarez as the American League's leading vote-getter for the 2026 MLB All-Star Game.

Los Angeles Dodgers two-way standout Shohei Ohtani is holding strong as the overall leader in the National League with 2,310,735 votes. Clement surged past Alvarez with just under 80,000 votes separating them.

In perhaps the most notable position race, the battle to advance to the next round among first basemen in the NL could effectively be over.

With Dodgers star Freddie Freeman sitting in first, the Philadelphia Phillies' Bryce Harper now trails the Atlanta Braves' Matt Olson by 277,614 votes. The gulf has widened since the first batch of returns, when Olson was up by 151,056 votes.

What had been a compelling battle at second baseman in the AL could be rendered moot as well.

Just over 8,100 votes were the difference between the Texas Rangers' Ezequiel Duran from Cleveland Guardians rookie Travis Bazzana a week ago. Bazzana has since fallen to fifth after ceding ground to Houston's Jose Altuve and New York Yankees star Jazz Chisholm Jr. Duran is looking like a strong bet to lock in second place.

If Clement remains the AL leader, it won't matter what the rest of the positional returns look like. Should Astros fans rally to Alvarez's cause, he'll have some justification for being a little frustrated when his sizable advantage on Duran (531,182 votes right now) only earns him a berth in the second round of voting.

MLB will close voting for Phase 1 on Thursday at 12 p.m. ET. Voting for the individual starters will commence on June 29.
