Junior Galette's Civil Lawsuit Case Dismissed: Latest Details and Comments
The civil suit against Washington linebacker Junior Galette was dismissed Monday, according to Mike Triplett of ESPN.
Per Triplett's report, the woman who was "alleging three years of sexual, physical and mental abuse" in her civil suit against Galette failed to further pursue the case. She had previously "accused Galette and his cousin of injuring her in a January incident that led to an arrest for domestic violence," though that case was also dismissed following an investigation.
"From day one, we were confident that the frivolous civil suit and meritless criminal case would be swiftly dismissed," Ralph Whalen, Galette's attorney, noted in a statement shared by Triplett. "The civil suit came only after we flatly rejected her ex-lawyer's shakedown to pay her $2 million in exchange for their not filing this baseless suit."

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Galette, 27, spent his first five seasons in the league with the New Orleans Saints and posted 22 sacks in the past two years. The Saints signed him to a four-year, $41.3 million extension in September 2014, but he was released this offseason after the team reportedly grew weary of his off-field concerns and disruptive presence in the locker room, per Jeff Duncan of NOLA.com.
He was quickly signed to a one-year deal at the league minimum of $745,000 by Washington, however.
Washington will be hoping this civil suit being dropped ends the possibility of any legal woes for Galette and that any reports of issues with his teammates in the past were overblown. On the field, Galette has proved to be a true difference-maker and presence off the edge. If his off-field concerns are in the past, he should prove to be a key player for Washington this season.
