Tyler Shough to Pay for Saints Teammates' Flight to Summer Retreat and Talks Drew Brees' Influence
Entering his second year in the NFL, New Orleans Saints quarterback Tyler Shough is stepping up as a leader for his team.
Per ESPN's Katherine Terrell, Shough plans to pay for an estimated 18 teammates to fly to San Diego this summer for a workout retreat to help build their chemistry on the field.
"For me, it's just kind of continuing to study the playbook and then just put my feet and my eyes in the right position. That's my whole focus," Shough said of his summer plans.
The 26-year-old revealed that he also reached out to Saints legendary quarterback and 2026 Pro Football Hall of Fame enshrinee Drew Brees for some advice on setting up his retreat.
"He might be there for a little bit, but I couldn't say for the whole time, but I think he was pivotal in setting everything up with the workout facility and the throwing location," Shough told Terrell.
Shough took over as New Orleans' starting signal-caller midway through the 2025 campaign and helped lead the team to four wins in its last six games. As he enters his first full season as the starter, he's fully embraced being one of the faces of the franchise, as Terrell noted that he "spent most of the offseason in New Orleans, appearing at community events, helping recruit free agents and taking all the first-team reps at OTAs and minicamp."
The workout retreat in San Diego will be especially beneficial to a Saints offense that has been banged up this offseason, with players like star wideout Chris Olave and 2026 first-round pick Jordyn Tyson limited or sidelined during OTAs.
"Obviously he's a great quarterback, but I think it's [his] leadership," rookie wide receiver Bryce Lance said of Shough at minicamp. "Truly, he makes me want to go make plays for him because of the way he leads and leads our team and our offense as well."
