Clark's win at Shinnecock allowed him to jump 14 spots in the FedEx Cup standings.
The 32-year-old had far from the most sensational final round for a major champion, but he held on to his advantage for the entire 18 holes.
Clark's biggest challenge came from Sam Burns, who ended up one shot shy of the now two-time U.S. Open champion.
The win was the second U.S. Open title for Clark, who also captured the title back in 2023 at Los Angeles Country Club.
Since then, Clark has had mixed success at majors. He had four missed cuts and a single top-10 finish at majors between his two U.S. Open triumphs.
Clark is now in a position to ride the wave of momentum following his win into The Open and the rest of the PGA Tour season.
Scottie Scheffler, who finished at even-par in fourth place, sits on top of the FedEx Cup standings with Matt Fitzpatrick, Cameron Young and Clark beneath him in that order.
Clark was one of 10 golfers to make a double-digit move up the FedEx Cup standings with their U.S. Open finishes.
Tom Kim, who finished third, made the biggest leap up 43 places to 55th.
