Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani, Wife Mamiko Announce Birth of Child in IG Photo, 'We Are Again Overjoyed'

Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani and his wife, Mamiko Tanaka, announced the birth of their second child on Saturday.

In a post on Instagram, Shohei and Mamiko wrote, "We are again overjoyed to experience this wonderful day in our lives together. Thank you for being born safely. We would also like to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has supported us throughout this journey."

Per TMZ Sports, Ohtani and Tanaka had their first child together—a daughter—in April 2025.

The gender and name of the couple's newborn child was not revealed as part of their announcement.

On Friday, the Dodgers announced that Ohtani was away from the team after being placed on the paternity list. The team noted that he was expected back at some point over the weekend:

Ohtani, who will turn 32 on July 5, is in the midst of another spectacular season at the plate and on the mound.

He is slashing .296/.418/.545 with 15 home runs and 42 RBI, and he is also in the midst of perhaps the best pitching campaign of his career, posting a 7-2 record with a 1.47 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 78 strikeouts in 73.2 innings.

Ohtani has won three consecutive MVP awards, taking AL MVP with the Los Angeles Angels in 2023, and NL MVP with the Dodgers in 2024 and 2025.

He is in solid position to win a fourth consecutive MVP Award, and he is also very much in the mix for his first-ever Cy Young Award as the best pitcher in the National League.
