Tigers' Wenceel Perez Injured After Being Hit in Face by Resistance Band After Astros Game

The Detroit Tigers were without Wenceel Perez on Wednesday after the right fielder suffered a bizarre off-the-field injury.

After Tuesday's game against the Houston Astros, Perez was hit in the face with a resistance band, manager A.J. Hinch told reporters on Wednesday. Hinch said that Perez is undergoing tests on his face and eye.

"He is going through a battery of tests to check out his face, his eye," Hinch told reporters. "He wasn't here today, getting tests to make sure everything is OK. I'm pretty concerned about him."

Perez, who is in his third season in the majors after making his debut with the Tigers in 2024, is slashing .180/.246/.348 with seven home runs and 17 RBI this season.

He isn't the only Tiger dealing with an injury, as second baseman Gleyber Torres was placed on the 10-day injured list on Monday because of an oblique strain. It's his second stint on the IL this year, as he also missed time in May with the same injury.
