Cameron Brink Injury Update, Latest on Sparks Star's Ankle and Timeline to Return
Cameron Brink's young career has been riddled with injuries, and the Los Angeles Sparks third-year player is now dealing with another ailment.
Per ESPN's Alexa Philippou, Brink suffered a left ankle sprain on Monday and is set to miss some time.
"We don't know [how long she'll be out]. It's a good ankle sprain," Sparks coach Lynne Roberts said. "I don't anticipate her being back in the short [term]."
Brink was selected second overall in the 2024 draft after an outstanding career at Stanford, but injuries have prevented her from living up to the hype she had coming into her rookie year.
She played 15 games in her first year before suffering a torn ACL that ended her season in June. She was unable to return from that injury until last July, leaving her with another shortened campaign.
The 24-year-old has appeared in 14 games this year, putting up a career-high 9.2 points along with 4.4 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game, a number that ranks fifth in the WNBA.
Brink had mostly been coming off the bench for Los Angeles, playing 17.5 minutes per game. Unfortunately, the momentum that she had to start the year has now come to a halt.
Brink's injury comes at an unfortunate time for the Sparks. They had just gotten star Kelsey Plum back from an ankle injury and were hoping to get a fully healthy roster for a bit, but they'll have to manage without a key player for the time being.
With Brink out, Los Angeles will count on veteran Nneka Ogwumike to continue playing well as the team's starting center. The 35-year-old is putting up 15.6 points and 9.0 boards per game this year.
The Sparks are currently sitting in fifth place in the West at 7-7 as they look to make their first playoff run since 2020.
