Saquon Barkley Says 'Legendary' Nick Sirianni Doesn't Get Enough Respect for Eagles' Run

Adam WellsJun 16, 2026

As the Philadelphia Eagles look to rebound after a disappointing 2025 season, Saquon Barkley would like to see head coach Nick Sirianni get more respect for what he has accomplished thus far.

Speaking to The Athletic's Michael Silver, Barkley said he thinks Sirianni's "legendary" five-year run to this point deserves more attention:

"He doesn't get enough credit at all, in my opinion. I don't get why he doesn't. Like, what he's doing, in real time, is legendary. If we're being honest, no one talks about it enough. Like, we love to talk about me rushing for 2,000 yards, we love to talk about Jalen (Hurts), we love to talk about the Eagles. But he's like the last one to get brought up, and it doesn't really make sense."

Sirianni has become a lightning rod for this Eagles team over the past three years. He was the toast of the town for his first two seasons when they seemingly overachieved in his first season, then won 14 games and reached the Super Bowl in his second year.

Since the 2023 season, though, Sirianni's reputation has been all over the place. The '23 campaign infamously ended with six losses over their final seven games, including a 32-9 playoff defeat, after a 10-1 start.

After an offseason of retooling, including signing Barkley and drafting Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean, the Eagles were the best team in the NFL in 2024 and had one of the most dominant playoff runs ever en route to winning Super Bowl 59.

Last season seemed more like 2023 between the offensive struggles and apparent disconnect between some players, particularly A.J. Brown and Jalen Hurts. Brown has since been traded to the New England Patriots.

The Eagles finished the 2025 campaign with a 3-4 record over their final seven games, including a 23-19 loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Wild Card game.

Another issue for Sirianni has been the composition of his coaching staffs. He was specifically credited with hiring Brian Johnson as offensive coordinator and Sean Desai as defensive coordinator in 2023. Both were fired after one season due to the team's struggles.

After Kellen Moore was hired as head coach of the New Orleans Saints following one year as Philadelphia's offensive coordinator in 2024, Sirianni promoted Kevin Patullo to call plays last year.

Patullo, who had worked with Sirianni dating back to 2018 when they were both assistants for the Indianapolis Colts, lasted just one season and is being replaced by Sean Mannion.

Even with all of the apparent chaos and turnover on his staff, Sirianni's overall resume is one most NFL head coaches would love to have. His .694 winning percentage in the regular season (59-26) is tied for the fifth-best in league history.

Sirianni has led the Eagles to the playoffs in each of his first five seasons, winning one Super Bowl in two appearances.

Among active head coaches, Andy Reid, Sean McVay and Kyle Shanahan are the only others with at least two Super Bowl appearances.
