New Jets Rumors on Joe Tippmann's Contract Extension and Updated Salary Cap for NYJ
The New York Jets reportedly locked up another member of their young core ahead of the start of mandatory minicamp.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Jets and guard Joe Tippmann agreed to a "big, new" four-year contract extension on Monday. Per Spotrac, New York had a salary cap of $323.9 million and $27.6 million in cap space, clearing the path for Tippmann's new deal.
The Jets selected Tippmann with a second-round pick in the 2023 NFL draft. After starting his career as a center, he was moved to right guard in 2025 following a season-ending injury to Alijah Vera-Tucker. Despite the change in position, Tippmann excelled in his new role and played a part in the development of rookie right tackle Armand Membou. After Vera-Tucker signed with the New England Patriots in free agency, Tippmann is likely to remain at guard, creating a potentially dominant right side with him and Membou for the next few years.
This marks the second major contract extension the Jets have landed this offseason, as they also secured running back Breece Hall with a three-year, $45.8 million deal last month. New York has also signed all of its 2026 draft picks except fourth-round selection Darrell Jackson Jr., who is one of several fourth-round picks who remain unsigned.
The Jets have made a concerted effort to revamp their roster ahead of head coach Aaron Glenn's second year, and they made key additions in multiple areas this offseason that should help them improve from their 3-14 finish to the 2025 campaign. New York has a strong mix of youthful energy and veteran experience entering the 2026 season, fueling optimism for the future.
Extending Tippmann is another sign that the Jets are moving in the right direction as they try to emerge from their lengthy rebuild.
