Gunther Reveals Stipulation for WWE Undisputed Championship Rematch vs. Cody Rhodes on SmackDown
Gunther revealed that his upcoming rematch with Cody Rhodes for the undisputed WWE championship will have a unique referee.
Gunther told SmackDown general manager Nick Aldis that he picked Sami Zayn as the referee for his clash with Rhodes.
"For my title match next week with Cody, the referee for that match will be none other than Sami Zayn," Gunther told Aldis (0:37 mark). "Make it happen, please."
The stipulation entered the picture following the initial match between Gunther and Rhodes at Clash in Italy on May 31, as the latter defended his title and emerged victorious in a controversial finish.
After Rhodes hit Gunther with his Cross Rhodes finisher, he secured the pin to win the match. The Ring General's foot appeared to be under the rope when the referee started the count, though.
Gunther confronted Rhodes about the finish during the ensuing episode of SmackDown and the stipulation was agreed upon, but the two were interrupted by Zayn.
A brawl broke out shortly afterwards, with Rhodes accidentally taking out Zayn.
While Rhodes and Zayn have teamed up in the past, Gunther still chose him as the referee for their championship match on June 19.
