Lamar Jackson Praises Declan Doyle's 'Mind-Blowing' Offense Ahead of 1st Year as Ravens OC

Adam WellsJun 11, 2026

The early returns for new Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Declan Doyle are very positive as the team concluded mandatory minicamp.

Quarterback Lamar Jackson told reporters after Wednesday's practice that Doyle's offense has been "mind-blowing" so far because of the attention to detail he has put into the system.

"I feel like there's going to be a lot of explosiveness this year," Jackson said. "The way Declan calls plays and his creativity with his mind โ€” how detailed he is โ€” it's mind-blowing."

The Ravens underwent changes throughout the coaching staff after a disappointing 8-9 record in 2025. New head coach Jesse Minter brought in Doyle, who has been working in the NFL since 2019, to call the offensive plays.

Doyle spent last season as the offensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears. He learned his trade from two of the best offensive minds in the league right now, having previously worked with Sean Payton and Ben Johnson.

Johnson, in particular, utilizes a complex system that challenges his players in such a way that even he admitted going into his first season with Chicago not everyone would have mastered right away.

The 30-year-old Doyle has said that he is putting a lot on the plates for Ravens players right now in an attempt to see what they can handle as they prepare for the regular season.

"We're giving these guys a lot intentionally, really trying to see what they can handle," Doyle said on June 3. "It's something that I picked up in my time at previous spots. We could kind of take it easy and not stress these guys, and it would be a lot simpler. I think growth happens on the other side of stress, so we need to stress them."

Jackson explained on Wednesday that Doyle got on him in minicamp this week for running the wrong play:

"I like the coaching. I want to be detailed, as well, [and] keep the defense honest. So, when we're doing everything right โ€” the little things right โ€” the defense doesn't know what we're doing [or] what we're capable of on offense on any given play. With the type of coaching that Declan is bringing, that I believe he's bringing, the sky's the limit.

Jackson is coming off one of the worst seasons of his career in 2025, though it was still good by the standards of most quarterbacks. He threw for 2,549 yards, 21 touchdowns and a 63.6 completion percentage in 13 starts.

The two-time NFL MVP ranked 18th in EPA per play (0.07) among all quarterbacks with at least 250 snaps.

Baltimore finished 11th in points scored, its lowest total in a season since 2022 when Jackson missed the final five games due to an injury. Its 8-9 record was just the second time it finished under .500 since 2016.
