Garrett Crochet Injury 'A Lot Worse Than We Thought,' Latest Updates and Timeline for Red Sox SP
Garrett Crochet is more injured than initially believed.
The Boston Red Sox pitcher told Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe the lat strain that has sidelined him since April 25 "is a lot worse than we thought." He also added "I have no idea" when asked when he would be far enough along to play catch.
ESPN noted the southpaw appeared to be working his way back when he pitched a simulated game on May 26 but felt tightness in his shoulder as a further setback.

White Sox Rookie Makes History 👏
Interim Red Sox manager Chad Tracy said Wednesday the plan at this point is for Crochet to undergo further testing later this week.
Crochet's injury is one reason Boston has struggled this season on the way to a 27-39 record, which is good enough for last place in the American League East. The Red Sox are 13.5 games behind the first-place Tampa Bay Rays and are yet to look like a team capable of making a postseason push.
The southpaw wasn't even his normal self when he was healthy at the beginning of the season and posted a 6.30 ERA and 1.47 WHIP in six starts and 30 innings. He gave up five home runs in those six starts and did not seem like he was going to make a third straight All-Star Game.
He certainly isn't now given the injury.
Crochet was looking to build on a career-best season in 2025 when he finished with a 2.59 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and a league-best 255 strikeouts in a league-high 205.1 innings. The innings total was notable, as he missed the 2022 season because of Tommy John surgery and pitched just 12.2 innings in 2023.
While he pitched 146 innings in his All-Star season in 2024, last year was quite a step up given his recent history.
Now Crochet is sidelined without a definitive timeline for his return as the Red Sox look to turn things around following a disappointing start to the 2026 campaign.
