Cowboys' Dak Prescott Talks George Pickens' Status for Minicamp Amid Contract Talks
After skipping voluntary workouts with the Dallas Cowboys this offseason, franchise-tagged wide receiver George Pickens' status for next week's mandatory minicamp remains uncertain.
Star quarterback Dak Prescott was asked about Pickens' status for minicamp, and he said he expects the wideout to attend while limiting his participation in practice.
"I haven't had any conversations, and to be honest, would love for him to be in, but even if he's in, I doubt it's a full, he's going full go, jumping in the team," Prescott said, per team reporter Tommy Yarrish. "I would hope not to be honest, just being protected and being smart. Just hope he gets in just to see some of the new guys, meet some of the new guys. I'm sure he'll be here."
Prescott said he last had throwing sessions with Pickens in March or April, but he's remained in contact with the 2025 second-team All-Pro during his absence from the team.
"They were great. George is George. He's great, he's awesome. The personality, excitement, his energy was consistent, consistent as it's been those times that I got to throw with him," Prescott said. "Just even communicating with him through phone as we have these last couple of weeks, George is great. I'm excited about where he's going to be. I'm excited about when he gets in and the work that we're going to have to build off of. George is George, and he's fine."
Pickens' extended absence from the Cowboys likely stems from the team's announcement that it has no plans to negotiate a long-term deal with him and will let him play out the 2026 season on the franchise tag, which will pay him $27.3 million.
After signing the franchise tag, Pickens would face up to $107,911 in total fines if he skips the three-day minicamp. It will be interesting to see if he looks to make a statement to the Cowboys by not showing up next week, but Prescott sounds confident that he will make an appearance.
