In a statement provided to the 49ers' official website, Turner commented on the honor, saying, "I am deeply humbled to be inducted into the San Francisco 49ers Hall of Fame. I wouldn't be in this position if it wasn't for the extraordinary teammates and coaches who helped me attain success on and off the field as well as the dedicated ownership that has helped shape this franchise's legacy. To have served this organization since 1980, one of the most iconic in all of sports, has been the honor of a lifetime. Being recognized as a piece of that history, alongside so many legends who have worn the red and gold, is a profound privilege."
Selected by the 49ers in the second round of the 1980 NFL draft out of Purdue, Turner spent his entire 11-year NFL career in San Francisco from 1980 to 1990.
Turner helped the Niners win Super Bowls XVI, XIX, XXIII and XXIV in 1981, 1984, 1988 and 1989, and he was selected to the Pro Bowl for the first and only time in 1984.
Starting 118 of the 153 career regular-season games he played in Turner, recorded 22.5 sacks, 11 interceptions, 15 forced fumbles and eight fumble recoveries.
He also had two sacks, two picks, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery in 18 postseason contests.
After his playing career ended, Turner spent some time as a television host for 49ers games, and he also served as the linebackers coach at Stanford from 1992 to 1994 under Bill Walsh, who was previously his head coach with the 49ers.
Turner returned to the 49ers organization in 2001 as the player development director, and he has played numerous roles for the franchise since then.
He had runs as the Niners' alumni coordinator, director of alumni coordinators and vice president of football affairs, and since 2018, Turner has been the team's vice president and senior advisor to the general manager.
Turner will become the 34th member of the 49ers Hall of Fame, joining legends such as Walsh, Jerry Rice, Joe Montana, Steve Young, Ronnie Lott and Terrell Owens.
