Milwaukee won the game 15-14 in a preview of what the offensive environment could look like for the Athletics when they eventually move to Las Vegas. The series is part of a six-game homestand for the A's being played at Las Vegas Ballpark, home of their Triple-A affiliate.
This was actually one of two games on Monday night that had a new ABS record. Matt McClain of the Cincinnati Reds became the first player to successfully challenge three pitches in a single plate appearance when he drew a walk against San Diego Padres reliever Jason Adam in the eighth inning.
Before Monday night, the record for the most ABS challenges in a game was 12, done twice. The A's issued nine challenges, compared to seven for the Brewers. Milwaukee was successful on each of its first five challenges before whiffing on its final two.
The challenge total is inflated due to the game going into extra innings. MLB rules grant a team one challenge in each extra frame if a team has exhausted their original challenges in the first nine innings.
Of the four challenges issued in extra innings, the A's called for three of them and were successful twice.
The game featured 11 homers and six lead changes. Each team overcame a four-run deficit at one point, with the A's putting up four runs in the bottom of the 10th after Milwaukee went up 14-10 in the top of the frame.
