L'Jarius Sneed, Chiefs Reunite on New Contract, CB Previously Won 2 Super Bowl With KC
The Kansas City Chiefs are signing veteran cornerback L'Jarius Sneed to a one-year deal worth up to $5 million, his agents told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Sneed, 29, spent his first four NFL seasons (2020-23) with the Chiefs, registering 10 interceptions in 54 starts and winning two titles during that time.
Ahead of the 2024 season the Chiefs traded Sneed to the Tennessee Titans after initially using the non-exclusive franchise tag on him, bringing back a 2025 third-rounder and a 2025 seventh-round pick swap.
It was partly a financial decision, as the Chiefs weren't going to be able to afford to pay Sneed the sort of long-term extension he was seeking and ultimately received from the Titans (four years, $76.4 million).
Multiple injuries limited Sneed to just 12 games in his two seasons with the Titans, however, and he didn't register a single interception in his limited appearances. Tennessee cut him in March, freeing up $11.4 million in cap space while quickly replenishing the defensive backfield with cornerback signings of Alontae Taylor, Cor'Dale Flott and Josh Williams.
The Chiefs have equally reworked their cornerback room this offseason, trading Trent McDuffie to the Los Angeles Rams for first-, fifth- and sixth-round picks in 2026 and a 2027 third-rounder. Much like the Sneed trade two years ago, it was a move very much made with the team's finances in mind, given the very large extension McDuffie was seeking (and ultimately received in Los Angeles—four years and $124 million).
Jaylen Watson also departed in free agency, landing with the Rams as well.
Kansas City then traded up to draft LSU cornerback Mansoor Delane with the No. 6 overall selection. Delane will assuredly be one of the team's starters, while Sneed will have the chance to fight for a starting berth, though Nohl Williams and Kader Kohu will be gunning for one as well.
But if Sneed can stay healthy and return to the level he showed in Kansas City earlier in his career, he'll be quite the bargain signing.
