Kurt Busch Pays Tribute to Brother Kyle After Death, 'Your Spirit Will Always Ride With Me'
Retired NASCAR star Kurt Busch publicly addressed the death of younger brother Kyle for the first time Monday.
In an Instagram post, Busch thanked fans and others for their support before reflecting on his time with Kyle:
"Finding a silver lining, I reflect back on the days Kyle and I raced anything we could get our hands on. From big wheels to competing on the biggest stages in motorsports, we were more than just fierce competitors. We pushed each other, challenged each other, and learned from each other.

"Kyle, your passion, determination, and love for your family inspired everyone who knew you. No trophy, championship, or accomplishment could ever measure the impact you had on my life and on so many others.
"I will forever be grateful for the memories we made, the lessons you taught me, and the brotherhood we shared. My heart is broken, but I know your spirit will always ride with me.
"Rest easy, little brother."
Kyle died on May 21 at the age of 41, days after he competed in NASCAR's 2026 All-Star Race. The Busch family said he had been experiencing symptoms of bacterial pneumonia prior to his death. His pneumonia developed into sepsis.
Kurt made his NASCAR Cup Series debut in 2000 and started racing full time on the circuit in 2001. He won 34 races and was the overall champion in 2004.
Busch made a prophetic remark in 2001 when hinting at his younger brother's eventual arrival in NASCAR.
"You think I'm a pretty good race car driver? Wait until you see my brother," he said. "He's the best driver in the family."
Kyle earned 63 checkered flags and captured the 2015 and 2019 championships, surpassing the achievements of his older sibling.
Altogether, the Busches have more wins than any brother tandem in NASCAR history, and they were both selected among the sport's 75 greatest drivers in 2023.
