New Myles Garrett Rumors Leak on How Rams Secured Trade and Browns' Lack of 'Serious' Offers
The Los Angeles Rams shook up the NFL last week when they acquired star edge rusher Myles Garrett from the Cleveland Browns, and more details emerged about how they were able to pull off the blockbuster trade.
According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, Sarah Barshop, Mike Reiss, Daniel Oyefusi and Tim McManus, the Rams "figured they would have competition for Garrett, but multiple Browns sources insist this trade was Rams-specific and no other suitors reached a serious threshold."
The Rams and Browns had been engaged in discussions for quite some time, but a source said that there was "a dormant period" until after the NFL draft in April. Los Angeles had used the No. 13 pick to select quarterback Ty Simpson, setting itself up for life after 2025 NFL MVP Matthew Stafford retires and making it easier to part with future draft capital.

The Rams reportedly "circled back with the Browns on Wednesday, April 29, after the draft." A source said that Los Angeles general manager Les Snead called Cleveland GM Andrew Berry directly to "see if [sides] could work something out." Multiple sources said "the answer was no" when it came to trading Garrett, until the Rams agreed to include edge rusher Jared Verse in the deal.
Even after Cleveland started to feel that Verse would be available by mid-May, Los Angeles reportedly "kept offering packages that did not include the Pro Bowler -- as one source put it, the Rams 'sweetened the pot' with a package featuring more draft capital than the first-, second- and third-rounders Cleveland eventually received." They eventually agreed to include Verse, and they then sought to ensure that Garrett would waive his no-trade clause to complete the deal.
"Hey, I know Myles has a no-trade clause. Are we going to have gone through all this and he's going to say no?" Snead reportedly asked Berry after a month of discussions.
The two sides reached an agreement last Monday, and Garrett's arrival officially made the Rams the favorite to win the Super Bowl title this season.
