Tyler Glasnow Injury Update, Return Timeline After Dodgers Move Ace to 60-Day IL
The Los Angeles Dodgers have placed pitcher Tyler Glasnow on the 60-day injured list retroactive to May 6 with lower back spasms and added right-hander Nick Frasso to the 40-man roster in a corresponding move.
"I think he wants to get cranking again," manager Dave Roberts said, according to the Associated Press, "but then the doctors just are not allowing for it and the body is not allowing for it."
Glasnow left his May 6 start against the Houston Astros after just one inning with lower back pain. Two days later, he landed on the 15-day IL.
"We talked to Tyler, and we just felt it was the right thing to do. It was smart," Roberts said at the time, per Sonja Chen of MLB.com. "Probably could've tried to pitch through it. But it's early, and to be prudent, to be smart, play the game, Tyler was completely on board with that."
Roberts also said an MRI revealed "nothing really significant."
As Chen noted, Glasnow has dealt with back issues before. He went on the injured list in 2024 with back tightness and missed one start last September for the same ailment. Unfortunately, this latest injury will now sideline Glasnow for at least two months.
The 32-year-old fared well over his first seven starts (3-0, 2.72 ERA, 49 strikeouts in 39.2 innings).
It's a tough loss for the Dodgers, but they've received great starting pitching this year from Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Justin Wrobleski to help guide the 41-23 Dodgers, who lead the NL West by eight games.
The starting pitching has been sterling despite being without Glasnow for a month and left-hander Blake Snell also being on the 60-day injured list retroactive to May 15 with loose bodies in his left elbow.
The most important things, ultimately, are for Glasnow and Snell to get back healthy in the second half of the season in the run-up to the playoffs. In the meantime, L.A. looks to extend its division lead as it hosts the Los Angeles Angels this weekend.
