Caitlin Clark Says She Played Through Illness, Vomited During Win vs. Angel Reese, Dream
Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark says she "felt fine" after vomiting at halftime of Thursday night's win over Angel Reese and the Atlanta Dream.
The incident took place after Clark tried to eat applesauce at the halftime break, she told reporters.
"I haven't puked that much in a really long time," Clark told reporters after the game (h/t Chloe Peterson of the Indianapolis Star). "But, then I felt fine. I felt light. So, I was running around, feeling good in the second half."
The Amazon Prime broadcast first reported that Clark had vomited before the start of the second half, per USA Today's Meghan L. Hall.
Clark returned to the lineup for the third quarter and finished the game with 17 points, eight assists and seven rebounds in 31 minutes on the court.
"You just keep playing," Clark told sideline reporter Kayla Grey about coming back into the game after vomiting. "I love this game, and I'm competitive, and I was going to do anything I could to help this team win."
The Fever were in need of a win after two straight losses, including a 16-point defeat by the Portland Fire during went Clark and head coach Stephanie White appeared to have an animated exchange on the sideline.
"I'm gonna say this in the nicest way possible, but hopefully it makes a lot of people just be quiet," Clark said about the win over the Dream (h/t Peterson). "And I know there's always gonna be conversation, and I totally respect that, and I always understand that. But the sky's not falling."
Clark continued: "We hadn't been playing our best basketball. Even though we played it for one game tonight, that doesn't mean we are where we what to be. But it also shows what we're capable of."
The Fever improved to 5-4 and rank seventh in the Eastern Conference after Thursday's victory.
Clark and the Fever will now look to ride the momentum of opening Commissioner's Cup play with a win into Saturday's matchup with the New York Liberty, which are riding a three-game win streak into the contest.
