"We are honored to make this investment in UT and the Haslam College of Business. The university is experiencing extraordinary momentum, and we are proud to help elevate its national reputation, attract world-class faculty and support the next generation of leaders — all while keeping the best and brightest here in Tennessee."
Per the announcement, $100 million of the investment is earmarked for the Haslam College of Business with the goal of attracting "distinguished faculty and further enhance its student success initiatives, graduate student scholarships and undergraduate honors program."
The building was named after Jim Haslam, Jimmy's father, in 2008. Jim is an alumnus of the university and played football for the Volunteers, including as a starting offensive lineman for the 1951 team that won a national title.
Jimmy Haslam graduated from Tennessee in 1976, while Dee graduated in '86. They both received the distinguished alumni honor in 2013.
The title is bestowed on those who attain "extraordinary distinction and success in his or her field of endeavor, whose achievements have brought credit to university and benefit to his or her fellow citizens."
Jimmy and Dee, who married in 1976, have owned the Browns since October 2012. They also own the Columbus Crew in the MLS and have a minority ownership stake in the Milwaukee Bucks.
The Browns have made the playoffs twice in the last six seasons. They made just one playoff appearance from 1999 to 2011. The Crew won the MLS Cup in 2020 and 2023.
