Todd Monken 'Can't Wait' to Meet with Deion Sanders, Discuss How to Maximize Shedeur's Skillset
Cleveland Browns first-year head coach Todd Monken is open to any options that would help bring the best out of his players.
After Colorado head coach Deion Sanders recently said that he wants to talk to Monken about his son Shedeur Sanders' second year as a Browns quarterback, Monken made it clear that he would welcome a meeting with Coach Prime.
"I can't wait," Monken told reporters Wednesday, per Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk. "I've got a lot of respect for Coach Sanders, obviously as a player but also what he's done as a coach. He's done a great job with Shedeur as a father. I'm open to any time he wants to meet."
Sanders said that he wants to talk to Monken "as a coach, not a dad." He coached Shedeur both in high school and in college, so he knows how to help the 24-year-old excel on the field. The younger Sanders was selected to the Pro Bowl as an alternate after throwing for 1,400 yards, seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions across eight games (seven starts) in his rookie year.
Monken added that he was expected to connect with the elder Sanders sooner, but he's willing to make himself available for the Hall of Famer anytime.
"He said he was going to come, but he had a commercial. If he just tells me where the next commercial shoot is, I'll be there," Monken said. "I really am looking forward to it. I've got a ton of respect for him, and I've got a ton of respect for Shedeur because all he's done since I've been here is work."
