Alvin Kamara Has No 'Bad Blood' with Saints amid Rumors Around Potential Release

Julia StumbaughJun 3, 2026

Running back Alvin Kamara says there is "no beef or bad blood" between him and the New Orleans Saints despite ongoing uncertainty about his contract, per The Times-Picayune's Rod Walker.

Kamara reported to his first OTA practice Wednesday in Metairie, where his future has been in question since the Saints signed running back Travis Etienne to a four-year contract earlier this offseason.

The Saints have since been noncommittal about the team's future with Kamara, who is set to play next season under a $10.4 million cap hit. Trading him would give the Saints just under $3.4 million in cap space, per Over the Cap.

Kamara told reporters Wednesday he doesn't see the Saints not committing to bringing him back for 2026 as a personal slight.

"I've been through a lot in my life. I've learned not to take things personal. I'm blessed," Kamara said (h/t The Times-Picayune's Matthew Paras). "It is what it is."

Kamara continued, "I'm here. I'm gonna do what I've got to do... I'm doing the same thing I do every year, training. I'm gonna be ready, and we'll see what happens."

Kamara participated in individual drills and a second-team walkthrough Wednesday but spent the rest of practice on the sideline, per ESPN's Katherine Terrell.

Saints head coach Kellen Moore told reporters he felt Kamara "could fit in really well from an offensive standpoint" on the team, but didn't offer any updates on Kamara's contract status.

"I don't know the business, contractual side of this thing. I don't think necessarily anything's been done there," Moore said Wednesday.

Kamara led the Saints in rushing yards in 2025 during his ninth season with the team, although he missed six games with knee and ankle issues and finished with a career-low 471 rushing yards in 11 games.

Etienne, who is three years younger than Kamara, is set to serve as the Saints' QB1 after racking up 1,107 yards on the ground in 17 games for the Jacksonville Jaguars last season.

The Saints are one of the most salary-limited teams in the NFL with just $8.1 million in space under the 2026 cap heading into Wednesday, per Over the Cap.

Only Chris Olave and Cesar Ruiz are currently set to carry larger cap hits than Kamara, and the Saints are set commit another $5 million in cap space to Etienne.

Moore indicated Wednesday he wouldn't be opposed to heading into the season with Etienne, Kamara and 2025 sixth-rounder Devin Neal on the roster should the Saints find the cap space to do it.

"That room could always use some depth," Moore said. "That group, we've seen the history of this league, you're going to need two or three running backs to contribute, and so there's always opportunities for these guys."

At least for now, it sounds like the Saints will have Kamara in the fold as OTA workouts continue. Moore could hope to have a more concrete answer as to where Kamara will be playing in New Orleans next season by the time training camp starts July 29.
