WWE Rumors on Reigns vs. Rollins at SummerSlam, Bron Breakker Injury, Bayley's Contract
Bleacher Report catches you up on the latest news from the WWE Universe.
Reigns vs. Rollins Reportedly Planned for SummerSlam
A battle between former Shield brethren may be on tap for SummerSlam on Aug. 1 and 2 in Minneapolis.
According to Self Made Pro Wrestling (h/t Wrestle Features), WWE is currently planning to have Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins clash in a match at the SummerSlam premium live event.
Reigns is the world heavyweight champion, and he is coming off successful title defenses over Jacob Fatu at Backlash and Clash in Italy. By beating Fatu in Tribal Combat at Clash in Italy, it forced Fatu to fall in line as part of The Bloodline.
As for Rollins, he is coming off a win over Bron Breakker in the main event of Monday night's episode of Raw, and he is also part of the King of the Ring tournament.
Rollins is slated to face Je'Von Evans, Talla Tonga and Ricky Saints in a Fatal 4-Way in the first round of the tournament. If he wins, he will take on the winner of Jey Uso vs. LA Knight vs. Royce Keys vs. Finn Balor.
On the other side of the bracket, Oba Femi decisively won his first-round match, and his semifinal opponent could end up being Breakker.
While Femi is being presented as the favorite, interference by Brock Lesnar in the semifinals or finals could open the door for someone else to win the tourney, and Rollins would be the prime candidate to do so.
If that comes to fruition, Rollins would earn a world title opportunity at SummerSlam, and it would make sense for him to choose Reigns as his opponent due to their history together.
Update on Breakker's Health After Raw
A new report is allaying concerns about Bron Breakker dealing with a significant injury.
According to False Finish, Breakker was "banged up" coming out of his loss to Seth Rollins on Raw, but he did not suffer an injury that will keep him out of the ring moving forward.
Speculation regarding Breakker's health began to run rampant after Raw when video of Breakker limping hit social media:
That came after Breakker missed a couple of months of action due to a hernia before making his surprise return at WrestleMania 42 in April.
Breakker and Rollins clashed in a highly physical and entertaining match to close out Raw, and Rollins came out on top after Montez Ford showed up and helped neutralize the outside threat of The Vision on Seth's behalf.
Despite the loss, Breakker figures to be heavily featured and pushed in the coming weeks and months.
In addition to being one half of the world tag team champions with Austin Theory, Breakker is part of the King of the Ring tournament.
He is slated to face Dominik Mysterio, Trick Williams and Damian Priest in the first round, and if he wins, Breakker will then meet Oba Femi in the semis.
Should Brock Lesnar potentially interfere in that bout, a rematch between Breakker and Rollins in the King of the Ring finals at Night of Champions could be a possibility.
If those are indeed the plans, WWE apparently doesn't have any concern about a Breakker injury preventing them from happening.
Reported Details on Bayley's Contract Expiration Timeline
Bayley's WWE future is reportedly unclear as the expiration of her contract approaches.
According to WrestleVotes on Fightful Select (h/t Shawn Conners of Slam Wrestling), Bayley's WWE deal is scheduled to expire at the end of 2026.
WrestleVotes added that while WWE is interested in re-signing her, there isn't yet any indication that a new deal has been reached between the two sides.
Bayley, who turns 37 this month, has been under a WWE contract since late 2012.
She began in NXT and became one of the most popular babyfaces in the history of the brand, holding the NXT Women's Championship once.
Since getting called up to the main roster in 2016, Bayley has established herself as one of the most decorated women in WWE history.
She is a two-time WWE women's champion, two-time SmackDown women's champion, two-time WWE women's tag team champion, and a one-time winner of both the women's Royal Rumble and the women's Money in the Bank ladder match.
While Bayley has been on top of the women's division on multiple occasions, she has spent much of the past year in a tag team with Lyra Valkyria.
It is fair to wonder if that is a sign of how WWE views Bayley and where she fits moving forward, as well as whether that could impact Bayley's decision to re-sign or test the waters elsewhere.
Should Bayley opt to become a free agent, she would undoubtedly draw massive interest from AEW, especially since her best friend Mercedes Moné is among the company's top stars.
