Angels' Jo Adell Reacts to Trending Video of Rockies' HR That Bounced Off His Head
Jose Canseco has company after Los Angeles Angels outfielder Jo Adell had a ball bounce off his head and over the fence for a home run on Tuesday night during an 8-2 loss to the Colorado Rockies.
In the top of the fourth inning of Tuesday's game, Rockies designated hitter T.J. Rumfield hit a drive to right-center field that glanced off Adell's glove, off his head and over the yellow line on the wall, signifying a home run:
Rumfield initially stopped at second base thinking it was a double, but upon further review, it was ruled a homer.
Speaking to reporters after the game, Adell gave some insight into the wacky play, saying, "It's one of those things where how it happened looks crazy. It looks like I've never played in the field before, which is disappointing, because it's beyond the truth, but it is what it is. I'm the only one that really knows what happened. I was out there, and it happened to me, so it is what it is. I've got to just keep going, and as a team, we've got to keep going."
Not surprisingly, Adell drew comparisons to Canseco on Tuesday since his play was eerily similar to one involving the power-hitting outfielder back in 1993.
On that occasion, while playing for the Texas Rangers against Cleveland, Canseco had a fly ball from Carlos Martínez bounce off his head and over the wall, much like what happened with Adell.
That play became one of the most famous bloopers in Major League Baseball history, and video of the blunder still circulates with regularity today, 33 years after it happened.
Canseco will always be the first to make that mistake on the MLB stage, but Adell made the distinction a little less lonely on Tuesday.
