Shane Mosley, Ricardo Mayorga Scuffle at Las Vegas Press Conference

Scott PolacekAug 8, 2015

Former champions “Sugar” Shane Mosley (47-9-1) and Ricardo “El Matador” Mayorga (31-8-1) are set to square off in the ring Aug. 29 in Los Angeles, but they didn’t wait until then to start fighting.

Jose Martino of BoxingScene.com noted that the two scuffled during Saturday’s press conference in Las Vegas, after Mayorga blew smoke in Mosley’s face. Mosley proceeded to slap the cigarette out of his mouth in the following video.

Mosley responded on Twitter in the aftermath of the hostile press conference:

The two fought in 2008, and Mosley won by knockout in the final seconds of the 12th and final round. It was a back-and-forth affair, and boxing fans will be in a for a treat if the impending rematch follows the same script.

Mosley is one of the most recognizable names in boxing still but has not fought since he lost in 2013 to Anthony Mundine. Martino noted that Mosley hopes a victory against Mayorga will “start his path to another title shot opportunity in the next few months.”
