Kostyuk Beats Svitolina, Updated French Open Women's Bracket at Roland-Garros

Joseph ZuckerJun 2, 2026

Marta Kostyuk's impressive run at Roland-Garros continued Tuesday with a 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 win over compatriot Elina Svitolina in the quarterfinals.

This is the first Grand Slam semifinal appearance of her career.

Despite only being the 15th seed, Kostyuk became the favorite in the eyes of some fans after she upset four-time Roland-Garros champion Iga Świątek in the fourth round.

The 23-year-old headed to Paris with wins in the Open de Rouen and Madrid Open. Nobody was performing better on clay.

Kostyuk's momentum carried into the opening set as she earned an early break and jumped ahead 3-0.

Svitolina battled back to break Kostyuk's serve and get the set to 3-4 but undid that progress by dropping serve in the next game. Kostyuk held and took the first set.

The second was a much different story as Svitolina adopted a more aggressive approach. That started with being sharper on serve, which allowed her to go on the offensive and get to the net. She feasted on Kostyuk's second serve as well, winning nine of her 11 receiving points.

Svitolina's 13 winners to six for Kostyuk was a good summation of the set.

While the match appeared to be swinging in Svitolina's favor, that couldn't have been further from the case in the third set.

The two exchanged service breaks through the first four games as neither could gain a foothold.

The turning point came with Svitolina serving at 2-4. The polish she possessed a set earlier completely departed her, and she mounted little resistance as Kostyuk claimed a critical break. From there, the outcome was academic.

Mirra Andreeva awaits in the semifinals after sweeping Sorana Cirstea aside in straight sets.

Andreeva and Kostyuk have played twice this year, with the Ukranian winning in straight sets on both occasions. Their last meeting was in the final of the Madrid Open in May.
