College Softball World Series Bracket 2026 Texas vs. Texas Tech Championship Set

Then there were two.

For the second consecutive year, the Texas Longhorns and Texas Tech Red Raiders will meet in the Women's College World Series championship series, setting up another all-Texas showdown with a national title on the line.

The World Series semifinals kicked off Monday in Oklahoma City with a showdown between two of the nations top seeded teams as No. 1 Texas defeated the No. 2 Tennessee Volunteers in back-to-back games to advance to the national championship series.

Facing elimination after a 6-3 loss to Tennessee on opening day of the World Series, defending national champion Texas responded with resilience.ย 

The Longhorns battled through the elimination bracket and entered Monday needing two wins over the Volunteers to keep their title defense alive. Behind dominant pitching and timely hitting, Texas delivered both victories to punch its ticket to the championship round.

No. 3 Texas Tech entered the matchup as the underdog against the No. 1 seeded Alabama Crimson Tide after suffering a heartbreaking 2-1 extra-inning loss to Tennessee in the second round of the Women's College World Series.

Facing elimination on Monday, the Red Raiders responded with a 5-4 victory over the Crimson Tide to keep their season alive.ย 

Texas Tech followed with a second win over Alabama, completing the upset and advancing to the championship series.

Now, the Red Raiders have a chance to capture the first national title in program history after falling one step short in the 2025 championship series.

Texas defeats Tennessee

After three scoreless innings, Texas and Tennessee finally broke through in the fourth, trading runs to enter the fifth inning tied.

Katie Stewart sparked the Longhorns' offense with a solo home run to open the fifth, giving Texas its first lead of the game. Moments later, Hannah Wells delivered a clutch RBI single that plated two more runs and stretched the advantage to 4-1.

Texas added an insurance run in the seventh when Ashton Maloney drove in a run, pushing the lead to 5-1.ย 

Tennessee threatened in the bottom half of the inning, as Emma Clarke brought home a run with the bases loaded, but the Longhorns limited the damage and closed out the 5-2 victory.

Texas ace Citlaly Gutierrez was steady throughout, allowing just five hits and one earned run over 6 2/3 innings while striking out three. The senior helped keep Tennessee's offense in check, surrendering only eight total bases as the Longhorns secured the win.

Texas 4, Tennessee 0

Texas left little doubt in the elimination game, rolling to a 4-0 victory behind a dominant performance from Teagan Kavan at the mound.ย 

Kavan struck out 10 and allowed just two hits over seven shutout innings, keeping Tennessee's offense off balance from start to finish.

The Longhorns provided plenty of support at the plate. Viviana Martinez and Reese Atwood each drove in a run, while Kayden Henry delivered one of the game's most memorable moments with a daring steal of home. Stewart continued her standout day at the plate, launching her second home run to help power Texas to the win.

Texas Tech defeats Alabama

Texas Tech 5, Alabama 4

Mia Williams delivered the decisive blow for Texas Tech, launching a walk-off home run to left-center field to lift the Red Raiders to a 5-4 victory and force a winner-take-all third game in the elimination series.

The matchup turned into a home run derby, with both offenses relying on the long ball.ย 

Alabama's Marlie Giles and Jena Young each went deep for the Crimson Tide, while Lauren Allred, Taylor Pannell and Williams powered Texas Tech's offense with home runs of their own.ย 

Texas Tech star NiJaree Canady struck out four while allowing three hits and one earned run on a home run over 2 2/3 innings.

Texas Tech 2, Alabama 0

Canady delivered a dominant complete-game performance against Alabama, striking out six while allowing just two hits over seven innings to lead Texas Tech into the finals.

The Red Raiders out-hit Alabama 10-2 and finished with 14 total bases, while the Crimson Tide stranded four runners and were held scoreless.

Jasmyn Burns sparked the offense with a home run in the fourth, and Lauren Allred added a RBI in the top of the seventh to extend the lead to 2-0 heading into the final frame.

The first game of the Women's College World Series National Championship is scheduled to be played at Devon Park in Oklahoma City on Wednesday.
